* Get a lot of sleep! The recommended sleep a person should get is 7.5 to 9 hours. * Eat breakfast! It provides you with important nutrients such as calcium, iron and B vitamins as well as protein. Breakfast also helps your energy level and gives your brain a jump start to the day! * Keep a system! I pick out my clothes the night before and prepare lunch. Keep a system so you won’t be stressing the morning of. * Get your homework done first! As soon as you get home from school start your homework so you won’t be up all night trying to finish it. * Take some time for yourself. Keep yourself happy so you won’t be less stressed! Watch your favorite show, read a book, talk a walk. Make sure to do something you love that helps you stay balanced. These are a few tips I use to remain balanced and focused. I know sometimes things don’t go as planned. You may have to stay up late to finish homework, other things come up and you can’t finish your assignments. God has blessed me with succeeding in school and also dealing with life obstacles. I know He will bless the mothers here at New Beginnings too. Praying to God can help keep you focused when things don’t go as planned. Put your trust in Him and everything will work out. Always remember after the storm (school), the sunshine (Graduation) comes out. God Bless! ![]() DeShanna Turner- Smith Is the intern here at New Beginnings. God has blessed me with a happy, healthy, little girl who has taught me a lot this year on how to love more, have a little more compassion and how to lean on God in certain situations. The first year of being a mom is really scary, I had thoughts like, "Am I’m doing this right?", "What should I be doing?", or "Does she love me?". But every morning when she opens her eyes and looks at me, I see her smile and this lets me know that I am loved. (LOL) I remember the first time I dropped her off at daycare. I cried like a baby because my mom and I were the only ones that I trusted with my baby. When I went back to pick her up, her eyes lit up with excitement and that made me feel great and loved. So now I look forward to dropping her off and picking her up. I had moments of thinking about giving up this year. I just started to pray more and more and began to talk to God asking him for more patience and forgiveness.
This little girl brings happiness to my life. God knew just want to do for my life and it was Kiarra. So excited to see what God has for us this year. ![]() Shaneka has been a resident at New Beginnings since June of 2015. She is working towards pursuing a degree in nursing. She has always dreamed of working in the healthcare field and is excited that New Beginnings can help her fulfill her dream. She enjoys spending time with her beautiful baby girl, Kiarra.
I could have never anticipated how much I would learn from the residents here. In the position that I have, many would think the exact opposite. However, living here has had a significant impact on my life. I am so thankful that God has given me the opportunity to serve Him in this way! I love the way in which this program connects the residents to their Lord. I myself have grown spiritually as well since this experience began. The power of God can go so far. With Him as the ruler of our lives, we can have the confidence that we will be able to stand whatever life throws at us! Experiences will come & go, with is learning along the way. God is constant. If this we can be certain. Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." ![]() Eden Ehlers I am from Peoria, AZ. Strategy #1: Use school time wisely. If you have free time during school, use that time to try and get some homework done or even study for an upcoming test. These things may or may not work for you but it wouldn’t hurt to try. Good luck! ![]() Meosha is a former resident here at New Beginnings. She joined our family in January of 2016. My time here has been nothing short of a great experience. I have been blessed to become part of the New Beginnings family and cannot thank everyone here for helping me get my foot in the door of what I want to do for the rest of my life. I was able to work with some pretty amazing people who some days I don’t think give themselves enough credit and realize how much of a difference they are making. I hope to be like them during my journey in the social services world, so from the bottom of my heart thank you for pointing me in the right direction and working with me. I have made some great relationships with the residents here and I am so grateful for that. I look up to them so much for persevering and really trying to start a new life for them and their beautiful little babies. I pray that they find strength and peace in this crazy world we live in and I hope they know they always have people in their corner who are cheering them on. I really am going to miss this place. I have learned so much during my summer here and am so excited to get out into the world and try and make a difference like this agency is doing and the staff who work here! ![]() Holly Holm is a Resident Assistant as well as the Intern here at New Beginnings. Looking at the devotion titled, “All Together Now,” by Miriam Drennan it teaches us a very valuable lesson. Australian turtle eggs are buried at all different depths, yet they all hatch at the same time. It’s a mystery as to why that is. We can look at that and see in this world everyone is at different ‘depths’ when it comes to knowing about God. Some do not know him at all, which is why we need to spread God’s word so that everyone can ‘hatch’ at the same time when it comes to the last day and we can rejoice in heaven. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” As believers we should not keep our faith and knowledge of God to ourselves. It is our job to get out into the world and help others get to the same level in order for us all to ‘hatch’ and be taken to heaven together. ![]() Holly Holm is a Resident Assistant as well as the Intern here at New Beginnings. My family lives in Arizona and for the past 5 summers, I have always gone home & found jobs there to save up money. This year however, I had been blessed with a very good job during the school year that I did not want to give up. After a lot of praying, I was given my answer.
Fast forward 3 months... These women that I work and live with have become family. It has become such a blessing to have this experience in my life. It has taught me so much about the field I wish to pursue and has given me the tools to best serve God through my work. This past semester of college was rough. There were many things that had not fallen into place for me. When I was unsure about where I was going to go this summer, God stepped in and led me the way that he wanted me to go. I am so thankful to know that God truly does have a plan for me. ![]() Eden Ehlers I am from Peoria, AZ. I'm a currently a Junior at WLC, double majoring in Psychology & Human Social Services. Our moms here at New Beginnings had plans too. They were perhaps planning on continuing the struggle to support themselves, to find yet another shelter who would take them in, or perhaps they had no plan at all and was just living day to day in an effort to survive. What a wonderful thing that God’s Plan brought them to New Beginnings! Each mother now has a safe and stable place to have her baby. They learn new skills and hear God’s Word daily. The mothers here are gaining an education to get a degree and will then be able to find a job to be able to support themselves. I’m sure that being a young, single mom with no place to go was not in their plans but according to God’s Plan, it brought them here to make a New Beginning. How has God changed your plans? In the comments section below, let me know how God has led you to where you are now? ![]() Christina Pritzlaff is married with two children. She has completed Early Childhood 1 & 2 classes, Infant Toddler classes, and completed the coursework for her Associates degree in Child Development. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, camping, fishing, reading, and doing counted cross-stitch. When the time came for me to look for an internship for the summer, I sat down with my advisor and we talked about my options and all the places she had contacts with in order to help place me in just the right place. After going through about five different areas, we came across New Beginnings and I knew right then that that was the place I wanted to pursue my first internship.
Thinking about my time here, which has only been a month so far, I have already learned so much and have had my eyes open to the world around me. Being in this environment, God’s love is seen everywhere. Through nightly devotions, group nights, friendship Sundays, and all the fun activities that happen here I can really see the work of God being done and how truly blessed we all are to be children of God. We recently had a baby shower here where all the residents got together to play games and support the mother of the child who will shortly be with us. Just sitting back and watching and listening to all the conversations going on, you can really see how everyone truly cares about one another and how we all are like family. I have been so blessed to have become part of the New Beginnings family and I cannot wait to continue my journey here! ![]() Holly Holm - Summer Intern and Resident Assistant |
